Everyone is affected by childbirth!
WORLD RESPECTED CHILDBIRTH WEEK

The Czech Republic joins the World respected childbirth week (WRCW) for the third time in a row. The WRCW idea was brought to light in France in order to point at the social approach of the childbirth phenomenon. It also aims to help implement the up to date midwifery practice findings into modern obstetrics and gynaecology practice. The human rights observance is also still rather topical problem in postcommunist countries.

So what shall we expect? Movement for Active Motherhood (HAM) organizes Informal Festival of Pregnancy, Childbirth and Parenthood The Art of Giving Birth. The festival will take place at Perstyn Cinema in Prague. A joint documetary and feature film show The Way a European Is Born will also take place at the same time and location organized by Union of Midwifes (UNIPA). Every film will be followed by moderated discussion.

These events are targeted at pregnant women and their families, midwifes, medical doctors and also, in a special module, to pupils and students. Prescool children are also welcome! While you enjoy a rest on a sofa, reading a book of childbirth stories, or looking for information in our Infocenter, your kids can play with toys in the kid's corner or they can draw some nice pictures in arts workshop.

The festival will also feature a number of support programs during the whole week. These include classes for parents and medical personnel, discussions, samples of pregnancy exercise classes, legal service, midwife advisory center, introduction to the ways of childbirth in the Czech Republic and abroad. This year's special is our new section HOMO ECOLOGICUS , which is an exhibition introducing nature friendly items intended not solely for pregnancy and early childhood.

A public discussion RESPEKTOVANI will take place under the patronage of weekly Respekt with participation of various obstetricians, midwifes, lawyers and other interesting personalities.
